pLog 1.0.2-beta available!

It's take its time, but the second bugfix release of the pLog 1.0.x series is now available. In case you were wondering, the reason why it took so long is because 1.0.2 was not as critical as 1.0.1, so we wanted to get as many bugfixes as possible before releasing. This beta is probably what will become pLog 1.0.2 but since it has so many fixes, we wanted to get some help testing before calling it stable (we are not expecting any major issues)

Packages are available via SF.net in .zip and in .tar.gz form. Also for the first time and because this had already been requested countless times, upgrade packages from 1.0.1 are available. These packages include only the files that were changed or added from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2, so you can use those instead of the full packages. But remember that this package will not work if upgrading from 1.0 to 1.0.2!:

pLog 1.0.2-beta (ZIP)
pLog 1.0.2-beta (TAR.GZ)
pLog 1.0.2-beta-1.0.1-upgrade (ZIP)
pLog 1.0.2-beta-1.0.1-upgrade (TAR.GZ)

For those upgrading from 1.0 or 1.0.1, there is no need to run the wizard.php installer script again, just upload the files in the 1.0.2 packages and overwrite the old versions. For those of you installing pLog for the first time, please follow the instructions available in the wiki, and for those of you upgrading from 0.3.2, follow the upgrade instructions.

Please keep reading if you would like to know more about the improvements and bug fixes in this new release!

pLog 1.0.1 released

Following the beta testing period that was started a few weeks ago, pLog 1.0.1 has just been released. It includes many fixes for issues and problems that were found in the previous 1.0 release. Nobody likes releases with bugs but we are confident that we squashed most of them and that 1.0.1 is as stable as it gets. As usual, thanks to all of you who have submitted patches, discovered bugs, sent good feedback or just left a "good work!" message in the forums.

The release can be downloaded in a zipped package: plog-1.0.1.zip or in a tar.gz package: plog-1.0.1.tar.gz Please remember that there is no need to re-run the wizard.php installer when upgrading from 1.0 to 1.0.1. Just upload the files so that the old ones are overwritten and you are good to go.

Please use the forums for support requests and report any bug in our bug-tracking system.

Please read on for more details on which issues were fixed in this release.

Beta testing pLog 1.0.1

The first maintenance release of pLog 1.0 is ready to be tested. pLog 1.0.1 fixes most of the issues that have been found in pLog 1.0 and also adds a few small new features. Even though 1.0.1 is looking much better than 1.0 and there should not be any major issues with it, we will still hold a beta testing round for about 2-3 weeks.

The current 1.0.1 development version is available from svn from the http://devel.plogworld.net/svn/plog/plog/branches/plog-1.0.1 folder (please see our instructions on how to access the pLog subversion repository) and packages are available in tar.gz or tar.bz2 format. Previous packages can be downloaded from the snapshots folder if interested.

Following the trend of pLog maintenance releases, there is no need to run the wizard.php script in order to upgrade your current installation from pLog 1.0 to pLog 1.0.1. Just download the package, unpack the files and upload them to your web server making sure that you are overwriting all of the old files. As soon as the process is complete, you will be running a pLog 1.0.1 installation.

In case you find any bugs or need to report something, please use the project's bug tracking system

For those interested in the issues that have already been addressed in this version, please read on.

pLog 1.0 released!

pLog, an Open-Source blogging software platform, reaches version 1.0 milestone after almost a year of development.

The 1.0 release is built on top of the strong feature set of the 0.3.x series and adds many new features such as a friendly and completely revamped user interface, native support for subdomains, template caching and support for HTTP conditional requests, fully customizable URLs without mod_rewrite, a much improved plugin framework, custom fields in posts, support for the metaWeblog API and many more small improvements.

In addition to the new features, pLog 1.0 ships with over 30 plugins and 50 beautiful additional templates so that pLog blogs can be customized in any possible way. Examples of plugins available with pLog 1.0 include the highly requested template editor, a plugin that will allow users to use Textile, phpBB, Markdown or Wiki markup, one to put all new comments in a moderation queue, or several new additions to our anti-spam arsenal.

Please download pLog 1.0 and spread the joy! Plugins are described in our plugin repository and can be downloaded here, while templates can be downloaded here.

For those of you new to pLog, upload the files to your server and run the wizard.php script. Detailed installation instructions are available in the wiki.

For those of you upgrading from an older 0.3.x release, please make a backup copy of your database and follow the upgrade instructions as described in the wiki. Old templates should work just fine with the new version even though some features might be missing. While plugins from the old version will not work in pLog 1.0, most of them have already been ported to the new framework so it is only a matter of updating them.

Our forums and bug tracker are still open so please let us know there if you have any suggesion or would like to report any bug (when reporting bugs, use "1.0-final" as Product Version)
